What do you think makes SBS unique?
SBS is unique in many ways including student body, the faculty, and the method in which this school is run. However, I think the most unique aspect of SBS is the care that the faculty have for students which extends beyond the classroom or the playing field. I don't think you find this dynamic anywhere else. I have grown to feel incredibly cared for, and am truly grateful for that.

    What is your favorite class?
My favorite class of all time throughout my SBS career has been Chamber Orchestra. I love it because of Mrs. Ramirez who brings 200% to class and is passionate about every musician in the room. She always puts a smile on my face, regardless if I've failed a test the period before or if I am tired. She is an inspiring woman!

What are some positive changes in your life that you can directly connect to your experience at SBS?
My worldview has been changed drastically. I view the world with "enhanced lenses." I've met incredible peers from all over the world as well as connected with faculty who I consider my mentors and family. I feel that I am well-rounded and independent individual.

What is your favorite book you've read for class this year?
    The Master and Margarita.

How do you feel SBS is preparing you for life?
SBS is preparing me for life because it has helped me learn to be independent and to be able to balance all aspects of my life— like academics, athletics, social life, and leadership.

What's something that makes SBS unique?
SBS is unique because they teach us that our character, and who we are as a person, is more important than the success of our future jobs and endeavors.

What is your favorite off-campus activity that you’d need a train/ride for?
    Dorm Council shopping trips!

SBS has given me great life skills by helping me develop study habits and time management skills. It's given me a head start and helped me to become not only a better student but a more well-rounded person.

What is your biggest aspiration for the future?
I want to change the culture of interior design to help it become more sustainable and eco-friendly. I'd like to combine my interior design and photography skills to one day impact the world for the better.

What is your favorite book you've read for class this year?
I really enjoyed reading Hamlet! Mr.Johnson did an awesome job at making sure we not only learned about the play but also had a lot of fun doing so.

What are some positive changes in your life that you can directly connect to your experience at SBS?
I feel that I have a “worldliness” that I did not have prior to attending. With all the international students here, you are really able to learn about culture, cultural values, misconceptions, new points of view, etc.

What's something that makes SBS unique?
I would definitely say our status as an international school is unique. Eastern Long Island, Suffolk County, is predominantly American/caucasian and having an international aspect makes us stand out. Also, I think how the faculty are very involved is also quite unique to SBS. It’s not at every school that your teacher can also be your dorm mom or coach.

What's your favorite book you've read for class this year?
    The Brothers Karamazov

How did you discover The Stony Brook School, and what made you want to attend?
I discovered SBS through my dad because he graduated in 1984. Growing up, he always took me to the alumni events on and off campus. I decided to attend SBS because my dad always told me that the time he spent here was the best two years of his life. I constantly heard about the amazing faculty-student relationships and I wanted to be part of the family that I had heard so much about.

What are some positive changes in your life that you can directly connect to your experience at SBS?
Through SBS, I really grew into the leader that I never naturally was. The Workjob Program especially has taught me responsibility and what it means to expand your own job requirements for the betterment of the community. SBS has taught me what true contribution to community means and what to value in a community.

What is your favorite off-campus activity (within walking distance)?
My favorite off-campus activity is probably walking down to the village with my friends to go get Crazy Beans for breakfast or just walk around by Avalon Park. It's always a really relaxing time especially in the beginning of the year and the end of the year when we have more free time.

How did you discover The Stony Brook School, and what made you want to attend?
I heard about SBS through a family friend and I was drawn to the academic prestige (compared to my public school) and I was excited to learn how to be a better human instead of just learning facts from a textbook.

How do you feel SBS is preparing you for life?
I feel more prepared for college because of my rigorous course load and I feel like I've been shaped as a person and enriched by the community in a way I wouldn't have been at another school.

How do you feel SBS is preparing you for life?
I have had many opportunities at SBS to take on leadership positions, where I have learned how to communicate effectively with others and resolve misunderstandings. I have also learned to examine my own beliefs and worldview and to relate that worldview to that of others to have respectful and thought-provoking conversations.

What is your biggest aspiration for the future?
I want to become a pediatrician and serve people with limited access to healthcare, and improve my Spanish language fluency so that I can serve a wider population of people to the best of my abilities.

What about SBS do you feel you will take with you when you graduate?
I will take with me leadership skills, knowledge, and an ability to think critically about different viewpoints in what I am learning. And more than that, I will take with me the knowledge that every faculty member I came into contact with cared and prayed for me in my time at SBS, the wisdom I have gained through experience and mentoring, and the appreciation of such a close and relational community.

What about SBS do you feel you will take with you when you graduate?
The kindness and empathy, the confrontation skills, and the strength to face disappointments and setbacks.

What are some positive changes in your life that you can directly connect to your experience at SBS?
I have become more open to others' opinions and beliefs. Religion used to be a myth and something not relatable to me, and I dismissed it before even getting to know it. I have become more curious and open to learning more about all religions and willing to understand religious people. I've also become more caring and kind to people around me, since I've been given so much help and care from people here.

What is your favorite way to relax/have fun on campus
