Activities and Community Service Director

The Stony Brook School (“SBS”) is looking for a person of extraordinary talent to join its residential life team in the position of Activities and Community Service Director.   This role is responsible for supporting the work of Residential Life through effective planning, management and oversight of all student life programming with a goal of encouraging participation, incorporating the mission and values of SBS into all aspects of student life and building relationships between all students.   This role is critical to building relationships and helping both boarding students and day students thrive at SBS.   
Responsibilities include:
  • Create and develop a plan, master calendar and budget for student life curriculum.
  • Ideate, market and execute all student centered activities, events and programming according to the plan.  Marketing to include using the TV’s around campus, emails, webex, posters, etc.   
  • Create parent, faculty and student communications as appropriate.
  • Host events including weekend activities, community nights, dances, trips, international day, class challenges, grizzly games, etc.
  • Develop collaborative relationships with campus departments and partners including the academic team, dorm teams, student leaders and administrators.
  • Work collaboratively with the Dean of Students to enforce rules and requirements of the school during all events.
  • Support the Director of Residential Life in all aspects of student life as needed.   
  • Act as liaison for community service projects and participation, and track participation. 
  • Support new student orientation by providing clear and effective communication to students and parents.
  • Lead the selection efforts of student leaders in accordance with school guidelines.
  • Responsible for all purchase orders, permission slips, waivers and vendor contracts associated with activities.
  • Work closely with the Director of Unity and Belonging to support students, and our commitment to DUB.   
  • Ensure student safety at all times. 
  • Responsible for mission focused programming weekly and annual retreat providing opportunities for fellowship and worship. 

Requirements:

Qualified candidates will demonstrate deep, vibrant, unshakeable faith in Jesus Christ and be motivated to live and share the mission of SBS; demonstrate strong organizational, communication and decision making skills; have a minimum of 5 years direct experience working with teens or in a school environment and be available to work weekends.  Preference will be given to candidates with boarding school or related summer camp experience.

Our beautiful 55 acre campus is located in Stony Brook, NY.   This is a full time position.
